My goal: Your Success!

Teaching Experience

Hello, my name is Mike. I was born in 1968 and I am from America. I went to school at the University of Michigan and then I transferred to De Paul University in Chicago. At De Paul, I graduated from a Business Honors Course called the Entrepreneurial Program. This program is ranked top 10 in the USA, by US News & World Report. In 1997 I became TESOL certified. I have been teaching off and on since 1998.

Teaching Experience

In 2002, I moved to Japan for a year and a half, I had my own school for preschool age children for more than a year. I taught in the mornings using the local community centers. During this time, I also worked with adults teaching mainly Conversational English. Since coming back to Japan in May 2005, I have been teaching Corporate English. This is English used in Business with stated objectives. For example: Presentations, Negotiations, Culture Awareness, Teleconferencing, Phone Etiquette, etc... Alot of case studies and alot of preparation is involved! Thankfully I still teach Conversational English to my Private Students.

Teaching and Life Philosophies

I am not perfect so I always welcome suggestions! A teacher should be well prepared. If I do not know the answers I have text books and grammar books handy. I try to find answers and get back to the students as quickly as possible. I want a win-win situation. I hope you feel the sense of accomplishment after every lesson. I want the students to reach outward, challenge themselves but not too overwhelm them. Learn at your own pace. I have a positive attitude and I try to do constructive things in my life. I want to support you in your endeavors.

Background Info.

At a young age I collected stamps and thus got interested in cultures and history. In my younger days I worked as a student teacher for the mentally challenged and also volunteered with the Special Olympics. After 3.5 years in the Army, I went to university, receiving scholarships. During university, I worked full time as a bartender/manager and bought my flat in Chicago. I also shared a vintage clothing business. I was in a motorcycle accident, and lost my leg, then I realized life is too short. So I started to backpack. During my travels I collected art and antiques. I am passionate about beauty, traveling and meeting people.
