This was being used as a canopy inside a Tibetan monastery, hence the damage from yak butter candle smoke. This came from India and is a fine example of Indian 18th-19th C woodblock technique. Each color was made using another block of wood with a another design, thus eventually creating the finished piece. Another form of this was a roller, you can imagine, basically same process...
